Description

EURO 1988 was held in what was then West Germany and is remembered as one of the highest-quality tournaments in European football history. The Netherlands won their first major title, led by a legendary generation featuring Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten — whose volley in the final against the Soviet Union is still considered one of the greatest goals ever scored in a major competition. The tournament was also marked by excellent organization, packed stadiums, and fair play on the pitch — not a single red card was shown.
