The tournament was awarded to Mexico, and the matches were held in Mexican cities. Colombia had initially been selected to host the 1986 World Cup, but due to economic challenges and concerns about the country’s readiness, the hosting rights were transferred to Mexico.Colombia faced difficulties, including financial constraints and political instability, which made it impractical for them to host the tournament. As a result, Mexico stepped in as the replacement host and successfully organized the 1986 World Cup, which went on to become one of the most memorable editions in football history.
